For a New Zealand golf club manufacturer, SoftTeco built an AI solution that uses computer vision to automatically analyze a player's posture and swing.

SoftTeco built an AI application that recognizes the golf club in a player’s hand while using computer vision to determine joint angles and thereby the player’s posture throughout the swing. The required footage can be captured either via a mobile device’s camera or via a fixed kiosk equipped with a camera. Since no suitable training data existed at the outset, the team first collected video material, converted it into individual images, and built a labeled dataset from it. Two AI models were then trained to work together: a detection model that locates the player’s hand and the club, and a segmentation model that distinguishes the club in the image from the player and the surrounding environment. The resulting metrics – such as joint angles and club position throughout the stroke – are then used to derive technical specifications for manufacturing an individually fitted club.
